Law Focus 28 - Acid Mine Drainage

What is Acid Mine Drainage and how does it affect you? As no doubt one community in a tiny Mpumalanga Town of Carolina has come to know a little bit better about Acid Mine Drainage as this phenomenon impacted heavily on their right potable drinking water.

We shall discuss the Carolina issue as part of our discussion tonight as we are joined in the studio by the co-ordinator for the Environmental Rights Project at Lawyers for Human Rights Emma Algotsson.

Her organisation was intimately involved in the Carolina litigation that saw judge Mavundla of the North Gauteng High Court compel Gert Sibanda Municipality to provide potable water to residents of a township on the outskirts of the town of Carolina after their supply was tainted by Acid Mine Drainage.
